- What is the difference between wood and fiberglass doors?
- There are several differences between wood and fiberglass. One of the main contrast is the appearance of wood versus fiberglass. Wood doors have warmth and character versus the bland look of plastic, metal or artificial wood grains. However, there is not a wood door that is facing direct sun with no overhang that will not eventually crack and or warp. Fiberglass doors are warranted against cracking. The artificial wood grain on a fiberglass door does not have a natural wood appearance. Fiberglass doors do not have as many door styles, glass and iron designs available as a wood door does.
- How often does a wood door need to be refinished?
- It all depends on the exposure of your door to the elements such as rain and sun. If your door is receiving direct sun you may have to refinish as often as 1-2 times a year with a high gloss marine spar varnish. Over time your door may have lost its original luster you will then need to sand your door and re-varnish. We do recommend wiping your wood door with a furniture polish once a month.
